Grantham Town U13's 10-3 Royce Rovers U13's

Q1 - Playing 1-4-4-1-1we asked the boys to let the ball do the work and focus on movement off the ball.

Immediately our dominance in possession was evident. We pressed high into the middle third and after a chance had broken down, we regained the ball through Owen who placed it on the head of Matthew, whose efforts were within inches of the top corner.

From the goal kick, we stole the ball and in desperation, Royce Rovers brought down Charlie. Harrison stepped up to curl the ball around the wall into the bottom right corner.

This was new territory, scoring first and the boys pressed their advantage.

The boys were comfortable playing out the back or rebuilding, and with each touch, the belief got better. Matt playing in an advance role was pulled back but still found a pass to Jacob whose shot went wide and shortly after, Harrison forced the keeper to parry. Matt in the thick of things then took a blow as he found Yez who slotted home for the second. Streets buried the third goal from a poor defensive clearance as it fell kindly to him. 3-0

Q2 saw a few changes in personnel but our eagerness to press on stemmed from the ever willing Owen who shot wide, followed by Fred, equally as close.

Owen assisted Charlie for the fourth as Symon took total control of midfield with short quick passes. 1-0 (4-0agg)

Q3 - saw the wind start to play it part. Alex was made to work hard keeping the defence in check. Yez made great progress up the left with simple wall passes with Tyler and Kieron resulting in Yez getting his cross in and Kieron shooting over the bar.

Not to be outdone, Fred and Charlie combined on the right with Jacob whose shot was parried into the on-rushing Harrison to blast in for goal number 5.

More wind and Royce decided the long game was the only form of attack. A lapse in concentration allowed Royce a free kick

that found it's way into the net after poor clearances. From the restart our build up play in the channels saw Tyler's effort saved and Harrison followed up with the simplest of tap ins and his hat trick.

Poor defending in the channels by the junior Gingerbreds with the wind and rain now howling, saw two silly errors punished as Royce staged a mini comeback. 2-3 (6-3agg)

Q4 - we took control and pressed the game beyond Royce. Alex powered home a header from a corner, Jacob raced through one on one, confidently slotting the ball home and Harrison scored his fourth which blasted into the left post along the goal line and in off the right post.

Symon went close before Streets broke through one on one to get the final goal. 4-0 (10-3)
